Embracing the Mom Uniform

Sometimes you just have to face the music. Our busy lives and chaotic schedules don't allow for extra time to create fashion magic. I know this firsthand, and still find myself rocking a "homeless chic" look after getting three kids out the door for school. Mom life is sometimes (or most of the time) hectic.
I have been in the "mom business" for almost nine years now, and although I still feel like I am lacking all of the skills to pull this task off successfully, I have learned a few things along the way. These lessons have often come through trial and error, but valuable tidbits were indeed collected and stored. One of these tidbits came to me during my stint in the world of stay-at-home-mom life. That realm was a wild one, but that is another story for another day. Anyway, during this time I found that I longed to feel put together but often didn't have the time (or energy) to do so. I would stand in my closet and immediately feel overwhelmed. Everything seemed like it was "too nice" to wear to change diapers and do the dishes in. The trusty old leggings and sweatshirt would usually be the answer and I would once again neglect my inner Rachel Zoe.
I'm sure many of you know this feeling all too well. It's part of the journey, right? Yes, it sure is, but no it doesn't have to consume the entire thing. I have found that there is a way to compromise between total fashion neglect, and Vogue magazine ready. It's all about balance, and comfort, and wearing something that makes you feel pretty. I've used this combination as my compass at the boutique, and love finding ways to create a look that I often hashtag "comfychic" or "momuniform".
Sometimes we just make things too hard for ourselves. What to wear was definitely something that I over thought and made into an issue for such a long time. I finally figured out there are simple, little things that we can add to our wardrobe that end up making the biggest difference. The MVP of my closet is definitely a cardigan, coat or blazer. The best part about this outerwear is you can generally wear anything your little heart desires underneath them. Even leggings and a t-shirt can feel chic when paired with something with a little more elegance and class. Two of my favorite additions to my mom uniform are pictured below. I have rocked that camel coatigan weekly since about mid October. It has been my number one go-to and makes me feel like I have my crap together...even if it is just a mirage.

I am from the Midwest, and I know not all of you may be able to rock some outerwear depending on where you live. The second part of my mom uniform is all about the accessories. On days I don't have the drive to get myself all together, I add in some earrings and a necklace and call it a day. Just adding a touch of sparkle or a pop of color, makes any sweatshirt or lounge wear feel that much more fabulous.

It has been such a blessing that colorful hair clips and scrunchies have returned to the fashion scene. With hair clip tutorials taking over TikTok, there now seems to be literally a million ways to twist and turn your hair into effortless masterpieces. I am not complaining though, hair clips are the perfect final touch to the mom uniform!

One of my favorite things to create is easy fashion. Basically, something that doesn't take a ton of effort, but still looks put together and makes you feel beautiful. It has become a personal mission of mine to stock the shop with pieces that fit into this category. Providing good options to spruce up the mom uniform is especially near and dear to my heart. With that, I conclude the first entry on my blog. I hope these simple ideas will inspire you to feel more beautiful, even when you are just spending your day shuttling kids or cleaning up the house. You deserve it.
