My Top 5 Trends for Fall 2023

As a boutique owner, there is nothing that makes me more excited than the changing of seasons. Transforming the shop with new colors, textures and trends is always so much fun, but there is just something a little more special when it is time to transition into fall. Fall fashion definitely has my heart, and every year I look forward to all of the new cardigans, cozy sweaters, and trending denim. Now that the temperatures are dipping, and football season has officially kicked off, it's time. So without further ado, here are five trends that I am most excited about bringing to the shop this season! Be sure to grab a PSL (yes, I am basic), light your favorite fall-scented candle, and cozy up with this post.
1. The Cropped Puffer Vest
Every year there seems to be a different take on the beloved puffer vest..and honestly, I am always here for it. In fact, a variation of this vest has been circulating my closet since the early 2000s. This season the cropped version is really showing some versatility and style. What I love about the cropped version of this vest is the way it fits, still giving all of the fall/layered vibes without the extra bulk and material.
2. Straight Leg Denim
Truthfully, it has been slightly difficult for me to navigate away from the skinny jean. I guess you could blame it on me being a millennial, but going full wide-leg/mom jean has been hard for me. This growing trend in denim really transports me back to the early 90s. Don't get me wrong, it was a great time to be alive, but I would have never guessed the fashion from this era would ever make a comeback. But here we are and I am proud to say I have fully embraced the straight-leg style! I feel like it is a great compromise between a skinny and a full wide-leg. So if you are like me and refuse to relinquish your skinny jeans, a straight-leg option is the perfect way to stay relevant in the ever-changing world of fashion this fall.
3. Layered Necklaces
This style of jewelry is something I hope sticks around for a while. I absolutely LOVE how chic these layered pieces look and the extra special details they add to an outfit. Thrown over a casual crewneck sweatshirt or paired with a fancy blazer, the style options are endless. Bonus points for me if a layer includes a paper clip chain...that style is my favorite.
4 The Bodysuit
I enjoy when a trend seamlessly moves from one season to the next. This year, the bodysuit has done just that. During the summer months, sleeveless bodysuits paired with shorts or cropped pants were all the rage. Now that we are transitioning into cooler, fall months, I am happy to see that these bodysuits are still along for the ride and being layered under blazers, cardigans and flannels. Long-sleeved options are also making their mark, looking great as a stand-alone piece or paired under outerwear for added style and (let's be real) warmth.
5. Layers of Style
The best part for me about fall fashion is the ability to layer pieces and build style. My favorite trend for this season is having the freedom to mix and match all different types of style. Running out for coffee and want to be comfortable but still look put together? Throw on a blazer over a sweatshirt. Want to get some extra use out of your dress collection? Slide on an oversized flannel or a cozy sweater for a more casual/fall vibe. The rule is there are no rules when it comes to layering this fall...and I am SO here for it.
